Chalkidiki Archaeological Film Festival 2022, 2023
On the occasion of the re-opening of the Archaeological Museum of Polygyros, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Chalkidiki and Mount Athos organized the 1st “Archaeological Film festival of Chalkidiki” on July 22 & 23 at 8.30 in the evening at the open-air space of the museum, using films as the tool for familiarizing the public of Chalkidiki with aspects of our cultural heritage.
The screening schedule of the first film festival included films for the young and old alike, and introduced the work of the Archaeological Service as well as university archaeological research in the country and multidisciplinary collaboration in order to reach out to the past, films that touched upon fragments of memory in the modern city and paid tribute to notable historical figures.
The event was well-received by the public of Polygyros and was repeated the following year, on July 21, 22 & 23 at the same venue. The screening schedule of the 2nd “Archaeological Film festival of Chalkidiki” included a tribute to underwater archaeology, a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and films that brought attention to archaeological sites and personalities from the field of archeology, with Dr. Archaeologist Ioakeim Ath. Papangelos being the guest of honor. Mr. Papangelos has been an important member of our Service whose scientific contribution to the study and promotion of Byzantine Chalkidiki has been exemplary.
